The Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation operates the William Heath Davis House
and Museum, the oldest and most historically significant structure in downtown
San Diego. Throughout its 150+ year history, the William Heath Davis House
and Museum has been home to many fascinating people, including revolutionary
war soldiers and Mr. Alonzo Horton, well known as the father of downtown San
Diego. The house was also served as a County Hospital, and was thought to
once house a WWI German Spy! Although it was occupied until 1981, it was electrified
only after it became a museum!
The house has a beautifully designed Museum Gallery that is a unique place
to hold meetings or events. It is furnished with old English clerks desks
and antique chairs, arranged in a semi-circle that is perfect for meetings.
The leather embossed desks date back to the late 1880's and the walls are
filled with historical information and pictures that detail the beginnings
of San Diego. Directly adjacent to the William Heath Davis House is Pocket
Park, a beautiful park surrounded by decorative wrought iron fencing that
makes an ideal location for a private party. Kitchen and restroom facilities
are available.
The Gaslamp Quarter itself has an amazing history. Special guided walking tours
can be arranged, where your guests will discover what kind of business Wyatt
Earp owned, learn the creative marketing tricks famous madams used to attract
business or even where actor Gregory Peck worked as a young boy.
The Gaslamp Guided Walking Tours include a visit to the William Heath Davis
House and Museum and are available for groups upon request.
The Museum Gallery can accommodate up to 49 people standing, 22 sitting, or
up to 100 for a come-and-go
reception in the Museum Gallery and Park. Special accommodations, such
as creating a tour/lunch package with a Gaslamp Quarter restaurant, can
be arranged with advance notice.
